How Important Is It for a Daughter to Have a Good Relationship with Her Father? Children, particularly girls, are impacted
by their relationship (or lack there of) with their father. Many women are able to overcome and bridge that gap of a missing
relationship with her father. She can and does become successful in her relationships.
I have worked with families in confidential counseling sessions for a few years. A large number of the mothers did not have
a good relationship with her father. Some of the women were single mothers and some were married. However, I believe if we
educate the fathers to the importance of being more positively involved in the life of their daughters, and teach the boys
how to become effective and nurturing men/fathers we could make a giant step toward reestablishing a stronger nuclear family.
There is not a quick fix for this problem. It has to be a process that transforms these citizens. Many of the stories that
women have shared with me has had a common connection – they did not relate well to their father or they did not
relate at all – because of direct abuse or having seen their father abuse their beloved mother.
